About Kara:
Life and experience have been great educators for Kara and she brings a unique blend of these experiences and knowledge to her sessions. A life filled with traumas led her to explore her interest in alternative medicines and therapies after her first car accident in 1993 and continued through two knee surgeries, jaw surgery, two more car accidents, and a series of unhealthy relationships. (*update: in early Spring of 2011, the long forgotten memory of a 4th and the first car accident (1990/91) surfaced for Kara's attention.)
Although modern medicine and alternative therapies brought some relief, physical and emotional pain and trauma were still present and surfacing as depression, anxiety, fatigue, pain, isolation & anti-social behavior, a sense of "hiding", loss & interference with relationships, unhealthy diet, weight gain, excessive sleep, disrupted sleep, sleep apnea, lack of motivation & focus, out-of-control emotions, and low self-esteem, and although she appeared outwardly social, happy, and friendly, she actually felt very shy, withdrawn, and uncomfortable in social situations and was losing/jeopardizing many relationships.
Feeling tired, flawed, and unhealthy, life was a challenge, but the search for relief, wholeness, and balance continually motivated her to seek resolution that would bring her peace and live beyond statements that physical and emotional pain was something that you "just live with" and/or "manage."
Her journey led her to her first Neuro Integration session in 2003 and she was amazed that the relief she had been seeking started after just one session! Most noticeably was how much her anxiety had been alleviated and a sense of calmness and hope were beginning to surface. She began her training in 2005 and became a Neuro Integration Practitioner in 2006.
Diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) in October 2007, she worked vigorously with NI-almost daily and in July 2009 was overjoyed when she heard her doctor say she had been successful turning her diagnosis around and was doing great!
She knows she is "a work in progress" and believes every day is an opportunity to learn something new. She feels, lives, looks, and IS more healthy, energetic, confident, happy, and whole than ever and feels fortunate to have the healthiest relationships she has ever experienced in her life!!! Now she lives her life "out loud!" and is dedicated to living her passion teaching and empowering others to discover the voice and rhythm to the dance of their own lives.
Education:
Kara holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Organizational & Interpersonal Communication. The degree studies assisted in broadening and refining her communication skills to align her to her natural, intuitive talent.
Over the years, Kara found herself working in the field of Information Technology. Although not where she expected to be, working with computers became an educational experience that enhanced her skills and understanding of NI and the connections within the human brain and body, and her interest in NI enhanced her skills and understanding of computers. An unlikely match, the blend of technical and intuitive turned out to be some of the best educational and training tools and experience she could have ever imagined.
Kara's Neuro Integration training has been facilitated directly by the creator of NI and she has conducted hundreds of NI sessions with clients since attending her first training session in 2005 and becoming a Neuro Integration practitioner in February 2006. She received additional individual, advanced training, observing, and assisting her teacher in New Mexico in October 2008 and training and working with animals (horses, dogs and a chicken named Pearl) in January 2009.
Animals:
Kara was drawn to help people and animals at a very young age. Whether it was lending support or a listening ear to friends or taking care of lost, stray or ill animals, helping others realize their power and find their way through issues came naturally and continuously drew her interest.
In 2001, her loyal friends and companions unassumingly came to aid and teach her.
Amos, a seven week old lab mix puppy, and Henry, a kitten of a foster cat which Kara served as handmaiden & co-companion during her pregnancy and nursemaid & nanny to Henry and his siblings, arrived in their new home within a day of Henry's birth.
These new arrivals brought much excitement and a fresh, happy energy into her home. Caring for these creatures became more than fun for Kara, they brought a nice distraction to the challenges she faced, an animal education beyond what she could have imagined, and, many days, were her reason for getting out of bed.
July 2005 brought 9 year old Daphne, a terrier mix rescue with many health issues and ailments (heart murmur, 90% of her teeth pulled just weeks before her arrival, allergies, limited sight & hearing, limited range of motion) for what was expected to be 6 months of Hospice. Daphne started to change and improve daily (many times noticeable & monumental) and became a very happy, confident, and many times playful dog in a loving home for 2 years and 2 months. (learn more about Daphne under Animals & NI)
August 2007 brought 6 year old Mimsy, another terrier mix foster/rescue, with the inability to use her hind legs, malnutrition, and incontinence. She required lots of attention at first and NI quickly became a regular part of her routine and she enjoyed it so much she would “ask” for sessions and experienced noticeable improvements regularly. Mimsy became part of the family in December 2009 and continually gaines use of her hind legs, takes walks (with the help of a cart/wheelchair), "runs", plays, and has better control/awareness of her bladder & bowel function.
